Shipyard Brewing Co. - Double Thumper 5%

Taste: Wow, it's like the autumnal beer from ringwood that I've always known but with a massive bunch of hops poked in there. It's great.

Appearance: Camphor Wood Chest. Two boars on the label.

Would you buy 2? I bought a polypin.

Would you buy 4? I kind of have. I would again.

Rating (out of 7): 5***** delicious

Sadlers - Hop Bomb 5%

Taste: A light beer. The hops aren't that overpowering (the label makes it look like you'd shrivel up with one sip) but they taste great. You're getting some of the big three citrus contenders, (Grapefruit, Lemon and Lime). A lingering aftertaste of asparagus for some reason? Maybe I'm pregnant. That's a thing, right?

Appearance: very yellow. Carbonated. Trendy label... Do I smell lager?

Would you buy 2? Yes please!

Would you buy 4? Certainly.

Rating (out of 7): 5***** lovely stuff!

Brooklyn Brewery - Summer Ale 5%

Taste: Lovely stuff. Exactly what I wanted. Draft growler from Whole Foods! Incredible beer selection. This has a smooth malt taste, followed by some nice fruity hop flavours.

Appearance: Golden!

Would you buy 2? I bought a Growler.

Would you buy 4? I think a Growler is 4 pints.

Rating (out of 7): 6******

Shipyard Brewing Co. - IPA 5.8%

Taste: Sweet, tangy hops. It's not that delicious. Tart orange squash.

Rating (out of 7): 3***

Stone Brewing Co. - Levitation Ale 4.4%

Taste: This reeks of grapefruit. It has a sweet hop-drop on the tongue. More tingly than their other beers but I'm down with that. It has a partial malty bread aftertaste which kicks in after 10 seconds.

Appearance: Kevin Spacey's tan. Beelzebub is back on the bottle.

Would you buy 2? Yes. I'd like my chilly-bin chocked full of these.

Would you buy 4? Yes please.

Rating (out of 7): 6****** if you like things hoppy, you'll not be dissapointed.

Stone Brewing Co. - Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale 8.7%

Taste: I'm wildly excited about drinking this one. Pricey at £12 so the stakes are high... It has an incredible smell of sweet, hoppy booze. My god. Do you remember the scene from Indiana Jones when the guy drinks from the wrong Grail and melts to his bones? That just happened to me. This is fiercely hopped with some deep fruity flavours and a some malts too.

Appearance: I've been told off by the brewery. Apparently the character on the labels of their beers is a Gargoyle. Not Satan. (Although I asked my wife what she thought it was and she said "it's clearly the devil". Beer is a dark, handsome brown.

Would you buy 2? I wish I could afford to.

Would you buy 4? Again. I'd happily accept a crate of these from the kind folk at Stone.

Rating (out of 7): 6****** Worth the price tag.

Stone Brewing Co. - Stone IPA 6.9%

Taste: Another one from Stone. Again, it smells amazing. A bit like Pop Rox the popping candy. It's mega hoppy and wildly dry. My moisture!!!! What have you done with my moisture?!

Appearance: Jurassic Park amber. Satan's back on the bottle.

Would you buy 2? I just might.

Would you buy 4? I would shrivel and die. Too dry for four.

Rating (out of 7): 5***** Great stuff if you like arid conditions.

The Stone Brewing Co. - Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale 7.2%

Taste: My word. That smells good! Aromas of bread crust gave me flashbacks of feeding the ducks. Wow. The taste has blown my mind. Tastes of vanilla, wood, marmite and twiglets. Quite amazing.

Appearance: The devil on the bottle is very rude. You should hear the things he's saying! Hmm. Beer is redwood brown.

Would you buy 2? I would consider it a privilege.

Would you buy 4? Too strong to drink all at once. But I'd want to own four.

Rating (out of 7): 6****** amazing.

Goose Island - 312 Urban Wheat Ale 4.4%

Taste: Wow, that's very nice. its like sucking on a sweet wheat sheaf or a bit like lucozade orange, if it was nice. Isotonic.

Appearance: straw yellow. I hate that it's described as an "urban" wheat beer. Oh well.

Would you buy 2? I think I'd like two now. I only have one.

Would you buy 4? Probably could drink four. Or maybe more.

Rating (out of 7): 5***** lovely

Ska Brewing Co. - Modus Hoperandi IPA 6.8%

Taste: Smells like a pine forest.... Tastes like one too. I'm covered in sap. Powerful hop explosion followed by some old biscuits and a bite of hovis. Lovely stuff.

Appearance: Canned, which I like. Beer has the classic colour of teddybear-eye orange.

Would you buy 2? I would. I like pine.

Would you buy 4? Can someone buy them for me?

Rating (out of 7): 5***** it's really lovely.

Saturday, February 2, 2013

Ska Brewing Co. - Pinstripe Red Ale 5.1%

Taste: Light Caramel opening credits with nice citrus flanks. Goes great with salties. A pretty light tasting brew. Easy going.

Appearance: copper pot.

Would you buy 2? I would.

Would you buy 4? You'd drink four very quickly.

Rating (out of 7): 5***** lovely stuff

Tap Room Brewing Company - IPA 6.3%

Taste: An American IPA. Imported and honked by Sainsbury's. It's not as boldly hopped as a lot of American beers but it's sharp and has some honey flavours in there too. It's very pleasant.

Appearance: Weak tea. Sainsbury's themed bottle.

Would you buy 2? I might!

Would you buy 4? It's possible.

Rating (out of 7): 5***** it's delicious, but not daring.

Sunday, October 21, 2012

Stone Brewing Co. - Ruination IPA 3.7%

Taste: This smells like my heaven. Oh yeah! It tastes incredible! So much hoppy flavour and at a strength which would allow you to drink this from am to pm.

Appearance: Yellow. It's sticky, like hop flower sap. I think they just put hops in a liquidizer. The devil on the bottle is a nice touch at this time of year.

Would you buy 2? I wish. This was the last in the shop.

Would you buy 4? If I can find them, I'll buy them.

Rating (out of 7): 6****** Incredible!

Monday, August 27, 2012

Flying Dog Brewery - Wilde Man Farmhouse IPA 7.5%

Taste: Tastes / Smells like grapefruit skins and orange pith. It's hoppy and I can feel the enjoyment rating going up as I drink due to the strength. A peanut M&M does little to lift the flavour. Perhaps a salty snack would do better. It's interesting, just tastes a little fruity for my taste.

Appearance: Cloudy orange lager. Nice artwork as always.

Would you buy 2? 2? Why not.

Would you buy 4? Doubtful.

Rating (out of 7): 5***** it's not a four.

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

Odell Brewing Co. - St. Lupulin Extra Pale Ale 6.5%

Taste: Oh.... It's not all I dreamed. Yeast-Crust top end. And nice alcoholic lows. The mids are hard to tune in. Dried yeast petals? Or pine cone sap. It's growing on me now that the alcohol has taken hold.

Appearance: Orange Autumn. Great hoppy legend on the bottle.

Would you buy 2? Yeah! Maybe.

Would you buy 4? I could. By mistake. Their labels are all quite similar.

Rating (out of 7): 5***** it's quite obviously delicious and interesting, I'm just spoilt.

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

Arbor Ales - Yakima Valley American IPA 7%

Taste: That's really fruity. Grapefruit or melon or some such. Must be the bucket-fulls of American Hops. This would be tastier slightly chilled, I should have paid head to the bottle's warning.

Appearance: Cider Yellow.

Would you buy 2? Doubtful, but I've enjoyed this one.

Would you buy 4? As gifts.

Rating (out of 7): 5***** it's above a four due to interest.

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Anchor Brewing Co. - Liberty Ale 5.9%

Taste: Fizz tangs and rockets; fireworks in your mouth like the 4th of July! These boys have brought liberty to my mouth sensors. I can seriously taste the handmade and entirely natural carbonation process these lads promised me on their delightful label. Fizzy and delicious in a non yellow way.

Appearance: Cloudy gold like the brass band trombones that play out in the San Francisco streets.

Would you buy 2? Hey man, if I could find a place that stocks this liberal brew I'd definitely buy 2.

Would you buy 4? When the San Francisco streets are running wild and the bells of liberty are clanging, do you say 'no, I'll stop at 2'? No, of course not! You say 'yes my good man, I'll keep drinking this bad boy until I'm numb.'

Rating (out of 7): 6****** I love San Francisco; such a beautiful city. Turns out I also love their ale. I'll be researching the Anchor Brewing Co. with feverish interest.

Magic Rock Brewing - Cannonball 7.4%

Taste: Smells really hoppy! Ouch! So hoppy, it stings my tongue. So many hops. It feels like I'll never know moisture again. It has less of the sweetness of the stronger 'Human Cannonball'. It's delicious none the less.

Appearance: Weak tea. Cool bottle art as usual.

Would you buy 2? I would. But I'd be searching the shelf for Human Canonball.

Would you buy 4? It could be done,

Rating (out of 7): 5***** a fruity, hoppy pleasure gulp.

Location:Sofa

Magic Rock Brewing Co. - High Wire 5.5%

Taste: Hop smack! Right in my face. Some kind of fruitiness there too. It feels creamy in my mouth, but I'm tasting and reviewing a rich pasta sauce at the same time as this. This is pretty wild stuff.

Appearance: Bright eyes, burning like fire. Candylion bottle.

Would you buy 2? Yes. I'd have two. Life's to short not to.

Would you buy 4? Although I want four, clearly. As a man who lives in a house. I can clearly see that the grapefruit build-up in your body would start to reach dangerous levels. So let's leave it.

Rating (out of 7): 5***** progressive beer. More magic from the rock.

Magic Rock Brewing - Human Canonball 9.2%

Taste: Mmm syrupy. An awesome mouth-feel. It tastes like a grapefruit stuffed to the puff with hops. Dear god. This is so nice. Doesn't taste as strong as it is. Can you tell that I want to stop writing this so I can enjoy it?!

Appearance: Wildly cool looking bottle. Ale looks delicious.

Would you buy 2? I will hunt them down and destroy them.

Would you buy 4? If I see one. It's bought. No Human Canonballs are safe.

Rating (out of 7): 6****** Unbelievable. It might even be nicer than Magic Rock - Rapture which won beer of the month.
